How to Be More Creative

How to Be More Creative

It can be difficult to be creative sometimes. Especially if you’re experiencing a creative block, it can be hard to shift it, but here are some ways to help you be more creative

Want it

If you really want to be creative, you need to live your life embracing creativity. Adopt an attitude of flexibility, be spontaneous – and welcome it. Encourage your rebellious spirit and don’t conform to social norms. Teach yourself to be original by doing things that are unexpected, rather than continuing in the same old routine.

Motivate Yourself

To be successful in any field you need to be motivated, the same goes for being creative. People generally aren’t successful by accident. Similarly, to step one, you need to want it to get there.

Stimulate Your Brain

There are many ways to stimulate your brain, and different people are stimulated by different things.

  • Listen to music
  • Read a creative piece of writing on something you’re interested in
  • Take a walk
  • Go somewhere nice
  • Go somewhere you’ve never been before (take pictures)
  • Do visual puzzles
  • Figure out riddles
  • Do exercise

Whatever makes the cogs in your brain go, do it!

Surround Yourself with Creative People

We are influenced and inspired by the people around us, so if you want to be creative – surround yourself with creative people. Reach out to your role models, and people who are striving towards creative greatness. It’s so much easier to reach out nowadays, with social media there is a lot of people only a click away, so what’s stopping you?

Be Part of a Team

Brainstorming is one of the best ways of coming up with new ideas. It can be difficult to come up with things on your own, especially if you have a creative block. You’ll get ideas and perspectives that you may not have come up with on your own. That brainstorming can, in turn, stimulate your own creativity to be able to push the boundaries.

Have Self Confidence

You don’t want to toot your own horn, but it’s important to have some self-confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ve practically already given up. No one creative or successful every said “I can’t” and stuck to that notion.

Be Happy

Research has suggested that being happy can boost creativity. Now that’s not to say that it’s the be all and end all, but it does help. Being happy will help boost your motivation – which in turn can help your creativity. Being under a lot of pressure and emotional stress can affect your creativity severely.

Have Downtime

Although it’s important to be motivated, committed and persevere, it’s also extremely important to give yourself downtime. You need to allow your brain to rest and recuperate and not be constantly thinking all the time. This can wear you out and may be the cause of your writers’ block anyway.
